LUXURY HOSPITALITY
Rainforest Retreat in Rwanda
Luxury Hospitality Interior Design in Nyungwe Forest National Park
TEN was commissioned to develop a feasibility concept for a luxury safari lodge positioned at the edge of one of Africa’s most biodiverse rainforests, Nyungwe Forest National Park. Envisioned as a high-end base for gorilla trekking and immersive eco-tourism, the project explores the intersection of refined comfort and environmental sensitivity.
Our design narrative was shaped by in-depth research into Rwanda’s cultural heritage, local craftsmanship, traveller profiles, and competitor lodges across East Africa. The goal was to deliver a benchmark in luxury hospitality interior design - while ensuring the lodge felt authentic, grounded, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

A Future-Focused Luxury Safari Lodge Concept
The location itself is the primary attraction. From the outset, our approach to lodge interior design prioritised minimal environmental disruption and maximum experiential impact. Rather than competing with the rainforest, the architecture and interiors were designed to quietly recede into it.
The resulting concept is contemporary yet raw blending international hospitality standards with a material palette rooted in the Rwandan landscape. It is a future-orientated vision for a luxury safari lodge that respects its ecological context while offering world-class comfort.
Design That Treads Lightly
The lodge dissolves into the terrain through low architectural profiles, layered natural textures, and a palette drawn directly from the surrounding environment volcanic stone, earth-toned plaster, locally sourced timber, and woven fibres.
Sustainability informed every stage of the interior architecture process. Materials and finishes were carefully selected for their local availability, durability, and minimal environmental impact. Operational systems were conceived to reduce strain on natural resources, supporting a hospitality ecosystem that is both luxurious and responsible.
This considered approach exemplifies how lodge interior design can elevate guest experience without compromising environmental integrity.
Crafting a Remarkable Hospitality Experience
At TEN, exceeding the benchmark for luxury hospitality interior design is always our ambition. For this project, we asked: how can a stay in the rainforest become truly unforgettable?
Every sensory detail was meticulously considered:
• The tactile quality of natural materials underfoot
• The comfort and ergonomics of bespoke furniture and bedding
• The warmth and intensity of layered lighting
• Passive design strategies influencing temperature and airflow
• A signature scent experience reminiscent of forest botanicals
By designing for all five senses, we created a hospitality concept that extends beyond aesthetics immersing guests fully in place.
Redefining Luxury in the Wild
This feasibility study demonstrates TEN’s expertise in luxury safari lodge and lodge interior design projects across Africa. Through strategic interior architecture, sustainable materiality, and experiential storytelling, the concept positions itself as a new standard in luxury hospitality interior design where global sophistication meets the raw beauty of the rainforest.
“Luxury in the wild begins with restraint.”
