Luxury Apartment Refurbishment & Interior Architecture
TEN was commissioned to undertake a complete structural, interior, and architectural revamp of a long-forgotten apartment on Cape Town’s prestigious Atlantic Seaboard. As one of our first projects in the South African market, this luxury apartment refurbishment represented an opportunity to demonstrate how strategic interior architecture and refined detailing can completely redefine a space.
Through in-depth spatial analysis and a comprehensive reconfiguration of the layout, we transformed a dated 100sqm apartment into a serene coastal retreat with uninterrupted ocean and mountain views. The result is a considered example of interior design for apartments that balances functionality, luxury, and a strong sense of place.

Reimagining the Floorplan Through
Interior Architecture
Exceptional interior design begins with intelligent interior architecture. Our first step was to transform the original floorplan to improve flow, maximise usable square meterage, and eliminate redundant spaces.
A pivotal move in the refurbishment was the conversion and combination of the primary bedroom and enclosed sunroom into a generous open-plan living and dining area. This intervention immediately elevated the apartment’s spatial experience and enhanced natural light.
Simultaneously, we reconfigured the remaining bedroom to include a walk-in wardrobe and a new ensuite bathroom - introducing subtle hospitality-inspired planning into a residential context. These architectural improvements were fundamental to achieving one of the best designs for rental properties: spaces that feel both luxurious and highly functional.
Timeless, Contemporary & Rooted in Place
The design language draws inspiration from relaxed coastal living - understated yet refined. Natural oak flooring, travertine tiles, and stone surfaces establish a warm, tactile foundation, while brushed brass finishes and high-gloss decorative tiling introduce moments of quiet glamour.
Layered through curated FF&E, artwork, and textiles, the interior subtly references African design aesthetics - celebrating pattern, craftsmanship, and local landscape influences. The result is a cohesive narrative that feels contemporary, timeless, and authentically connected to Cape Town.
Designed with Rental Performance in Mind
This project was always envisioned as a luxury short-term rental targeting international travellers. Every decision was guided by our client’s goal: to create one of the best designs for rental properties in a highly competitive market.
To meet international hospitality standards, we:
• Simplified and streamlined the kitchen for intuitive, low-maintenance use
• Elevated the bedrooms to boutique hotel standards
• Integrated high-quality finishes for durability and longevity
• Ensured spatial flow supports the natural movement patterns of travellers
